The 47th Maze Running Reaping

    The day was just dawning when our train finally filed into the station. Upon departure we are ushered into cars and watch as an entire District awakens to the most important day of the year. Some are shedding tears while others are rushing through the streets with excitement staining their skin. A smile spurs across my face as I follow the figures with my eyes, I love this job. A scream, a shout, footsteps running away or towards the sight of our caravan. The Capitol was here to select the next shining star of Panem, Ceasar was undoubtedly preparing to start the show in his studios. Today is going to be a glorious day. 

    Midday soon shines over the skin of hundreds of children glancing at me to discover their destiny. I smile in the light of the sun, "Welcome, Welcome to the annual Reaping. Today we will select two brave souls to travel to the heart of our nation and compete for a chance at unlimited riches and glory. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!" Silence stirs me to my place by the first bowl, would there be any volunteers today? Time to find out who will be my Runners. 

    "Ladies first," My fingers fall and furl around a single slip of paper before pulling it from its place. I pause for a moment of adrenaline induced anticipation and read the first name allowed with a sweet smile. "Kaydence Aqua!" I waste no time watching her walk from her place in the crowd. I soon select the slip of my second contender, "Dragon Jinx!"

Kaydence Aqua

The sweetness of peace has finally graced the House within the past two years. Worries no longer fret the minds of the elder Members. Money doesn’t thin any wallets. Former Parents are unable to ignite dangers. Drama scarcely consumes the rooms, and in it’s absence far more chuckles and giggles flutter between the walls. Upon this date however? Just as the older Children are passing the age of being called for a Maze, I have reached the year where I can now be announced. The Others smirk despite, though I can see clearly the facade forming their lips. What happened to optimism reigning this family?

In a chain of linked hands we travel down the path that stole two of us before, but they were returned back to us. They were beaten, scarred, and tortured, both mentally and physically, but they still returned back to us. The name Aqua makes someone invisible, no matter the threats flung their way.

“I love you. And I love you. And I love.” Is repeated to each precious member, prior to my venture to a different cage. Positivity will radiating from me even more so when they lack it. Though still my heart hammers against my chest in rapid fret. Perhaps their fears have plagued me, even when it usually doesn’t? It’s not until the first name is projected that I realize the reason to the intuitive patter of my pulse. They contained a foreshadowed anxiety, as it’s my name that rings across the crowd.

The screams of my thoughts tell me not to gaze their way, but my eyes do so anyways. Panic riddles the features of both Lightning and Chaos. The expression of the rest of the Family are lost amongst the sea of people. But Lightning and Chaos are forced to be presentable amongst the stage; where their little Sister, myself, ventures to get upon.

“I volunteer!” The scream of Chaos’s words tempts tears to my eyes, though I swallow them back. She’s already a Victor, she’s unable to take my place as I know she would if she could. So would Lightning, but neither of them can. My view turns from them, as Lightning attempts to console Chaos to the best of his crumbling abilities - he’s just as devastated, but is trying with of his might to remain collected. It’s time for me to truly follow in their footsteps.

Dragon Jinx

Dragon was often nervous about his siblings being selected at the reaping, despite the significant amount of training that the entire Jinx family had been doing for their whole lives. Now, however, Dragon had something else to be nervous about. He could be selected as District Four's Runner, and he did not feel ready whatsoever. Yes, he'd done some training alongside one of his sisters, Charm, but that didn't mean that he felt entirely prepared. He still had nervousness coursing through his veins, when most Jinxes would feel adrenaline.

As he arrived at the reaping, led by his older siblings, his body was shaking. Dragon was unsure of what to expect, and knew that should he be selected, he'd likely panic. His family had an agreement, however, that if they were selected, they were not to volunteer for one another, as it was their duty to go in and win. When the name was called, however, Dragon was not ready in the least. He didn't pay attention to the name of the female runner, but when 'Dragon Jinx' boomed out, he could feel tears welling up in his eyes. He approached the stage, and took his place.
