The forest remains flourishing with thick, beautiful trees. Brick walls, yards high, refrain you from trailing far from the path. An opening welcomes you to a miniature park, similar to the Cornucopia, though not nearly as decrepit. Within this joyful environment a Father, Mother, and Baby Bear play nearly lifelike - but the second they notice the intruders, their animalistic behavior ignites. It’s best to be consider which Bears should be attacked.

Task: Battle against three bears. A flashlight with at least one battery must be turned on in order to avoid fighting randomly because of the darkness. If at least one flashlight is on it works for the entire Runner's group

Three bears were minding their own business mourning the loss of their precious family member from the day before. Papa bears brother passed away in the midst of battle, and he wanted to find who did it. But more importantly, keeping his wife and cub alive became very important.

Together they stayed close. They fought together. They protected one another. Papa grabbed some fresh plants to eat, and handed them off to his family - they needed to make a stew. But their time was cut short.

Wind blowing quickly and fast, Papa bear heard a branch crack, and his instincts kicked in. Throwing a paw up in front of Mama and Baby, he prepared himself. He was made for this, and he wanted to make sure his family survived.

Glowing eyes locked on the eyes of his family; "Maybe we'll have a human stew tonight. Maybe it'll taste wonderful."

Baby bear let out a growl of joy, and mama joined in.

But papa bear snarled.

Tina's fingers fidgeted within the darkness. She had kept close to her alliance this time. She had learned the consequences of going off without them once. She wouldn't do it again. However, it had a saved her in the long run; it almost cost her someone else though. 

"I'm sorry, Noelle for not listening to you guys." She whispered. She held her head down looking to her stomach over and over again, feeling the movement ache from beneath the shirt. The wound was rubbing against her shirt. The stitches clinging  onto the fabric
with each step. Light whimpers escaped her lips every now and again, but she seemed to pass it off until the darkness seemed to get too much to deal with. "I have a flashlight... I don't think the moon is bright enough." She mentions for no reason, staying back a few feet to dig into her bag to retrieve the device. 

She pushes on the button. The light flickers for only one second and then lightens the path in which they travel.

"Raiden, you okay?" She questions, glancing over to him but a noise caught her attention and then blood splattered against her face as a swipe in Raiden's direction disturbed  her thoughts. "... No! Not again! No!"

She felt a paw coming toward her, but luckily, she was able to block it. But, the bear was smaller and less of a challenge. It was her alliance that needed the help more. To make up for it, she felt the need to prove that she could protect her newest family. Raiden was too special to lose. Noelle was like a big sister. "You guys should run. I'll keep them busy..." She offered herself up.

Cold creeps slowly numbing my senses with shock. After a phantom face of Wentworth Monroe meandered through our camp sleep has become a thing of sentiment. Wicked worries pillage my presence every second which I remain breathing, remaining battling for those who I cannot touch. So why lie? Why pretend to protect and love each child now closely sleeping with me when I know I would silence any of them today if it meant returning home. Guilt grows within my walls which I believed I build high enough to never be flooded. I force my face away from the light of the yellow moon to hide the horrors falling down my cheeks. 

What we consider day only deals more damage to the truth which I spin in threads from my lips. Tina apologizes for her actions and again I'm severed from the faces of my family, I only see her's. Shock stirs within my mind, I can't allow myself to become clouded or else death will wilt my life's blossom. I shove away the sheer seriousness of my sadness and let a smile spell hope upon my face. A free hand fixes Tina's wind whipped hair, "Its okay, I just want you safe." I do right? That's what I promised after all...

Creaking claws crackle against my ears as my attention is drawn to the devils dancing in the dark. More monsters of brutal design designate us as a threat and again I'm tearing to the front to protect this family I've some how forged. Why are you throwing your life away for them Noelle? Tears tremble upon the brinks of my iridescent irises. Because I will always hold the health of a child over my own. Force fuels my words, "Stay close and stay together. Today we are one team, one family!"

I didn't sleep. Most of my time was spent running through the events, and every time I closed my eyes, I could only see them happening. Every single one of them falling in the midst of the cornucopia. All but one - I don't know what happened to her, but she's dead, and part of me should feel at ease, but I still shed a few tears. People died, and I knew it had to happen, but I never thought I would witness it first hand. I'll never forget Noelle and Dragon attacking the broken Wentworth. I feel bad for him. I wanted to help him, but I couldn't do anything other than cry with him.

The twins are together now, and that's all that matters.

It's so cold, and yet the night keeps turning darker. The clouds are turning darker, and the wind is picking up, and I swear it's going to knock me over at any given second, but I hold on. Not for myself, but for Tina and Dragon and Noelle. I have to be strong for them before they rid me from their presence.

Seeing that Tina's okay makes me feel a little bit better, but it could've gone so much worse. One of us could've died, a bear could've gotten hear.

But she's okay, and that's all that matters.

I take a deep breath, eyes dart in every direction, and I'm listening, and trying to see, but nothing is working. Nothing is helping me right now. All I can do is try not to cry like I did the day before.

Nobody deserves to die, but here I am standing inside the maze unsure of what to do.

Tina asks about turning her light on, and it would help because it's so dark out, and it's so hard to see. Perhaps the light can help us make it through this without attacking someone I care for.

She turns it on, and it helps a bit, but it's still so hard to see. So hard to move, and do anything.

"Raiden, you okay?"

But her light didn't turn on quick enough. I catch the glimpse of a paw slicing towards me, and I only see it too late. I feel like it's ripping my stomach open - a violent scream falls from my lips entering the air around.

"No! Not again! No!"

It's far too late, and the tears are streaming down my face. It hurts so bad. Hurts oh so bad -

There's three bears here, and they're going to kill us. Mama always said to never mess with wild animals, and these wild animals are trained by the Capitol.

- I'm surprised my intestines haven't fell through the gaping hole in my stomach.

I steady myself before aiming the unicorn horn. I have to hurt it because if I don't it's going to kill me, and I'm not ready for that to happen. Tina's telling us to run, and I can't leave her behind.

"Stay close and stay together. Today we are one team, one family!"

Hearing Noelle's voice gives me hope as I remove a bloodied hand from my stomach. Today I will fight for them even if these bears kill me.

Normally, night would morph into day, but not this time. The moon was the only light to see by, and the maze was pitch black. Dragon knew it was meant to be the start of the second day, but it certainly didn't look as if that were the case. When it was finally time to get a move on, the group made a move down another path. As they journeyed, they encountered something that Dragon was hoping to avoid- more bears.

These bears immediately began to attack, and one hit him in the back. Dragon let out a yelp of pain. He wanted to protect himself, as well as the others. They would have to fight these bears whether they wanted to or not. The young boy had done plenty of training back in the District that he called home. Now, he just had to hope it would be worth it. He didn't want to die at the hands of these bears.

The others began to attack the biggest bear, and Dragon knew that would be the best decision he could make, too. Sure, it wasn't the bear that attacked him, but it was likely the best idea. His werewolf claws that he wore would hopefully be a good enough match for the bears' claws that threatened them in return. Dragon glanced at his allies briefly. Then he attacked the biggest bear.

"Everyone, keep fighting! Don't back down! We can do this!"

Papa bear snarled, teeth snapping together as he glared at the tiny humans running around. All were ganging up on him, attacking him, but for now that was fine as long as his family was okay. He called baby bear back hoping to keep his little cub alive. He wanted to protect him. Baby bear hid behind mama, and Papa held his ground despite the pain becoming more than he could bare. It hurt, every part of his furry being was aching, but to give up would mean he would watch his family die, and that wasn't going to happen. He held out his claw and watched as his fur blew rapidly in the wind. The night was on his side, and the puny little flashlight held by the puny little girl wouldn't stop him from having his meal.

Mama bear carefully hid her baby before stretching out a paw as well.

They had to do something to make sure all three stayed alive.

Papa and mama growled together, but if the runners listened closely, they could hear baby bear cry.

He's dying again, darkness disintegrates depths of life leaping from his eyes. Blood burbles from beneath the bright bends of his lips. Thunder roars from above ravenously ripping through the ears of the remaining survivors. Again I am unable to convince breath to break through the stinging silence of death's damnation. He's spirit wanders on and beyond the battle which claimed his connection to Earth. Kenny's claws scratch into my skin.

Faces flick fiercely fueled by ferocious fear. Anguish ignites against my conflicted complexion as I witness another war reap its terrors against those whom I've become bonded. Fingers fiddle with a chain cursed with spilled scarlet while only worry whips alongside the howling hells of the wind. Not even the Maze Maker's laughter can be heard over the superficial slaughter they have served. Its only a moment in which I manage to look away when the world rips into shattering shards. 

She's sprinting. One step spurs after the other words willing themselves with heroism lining her lips. Everything slows. Brutality burrows forwards fangs flared red with rage and hunger. Indecision loses its place pristinely positioned inside my shuddering spirit as chains curl quickly within my quaking palms. I have to reach her, I have to stop it, its going to... Time ticks bringing the bear upon her in a single second. My scream is split to a stop, "Tina get ba...!" A claw cruelly contains me from my motion, I'm painfully freed just as another claw curves through Tina's eye. 

Soil streaks across my knees soiling skin with stinging scars. Her body breaks into my arms, her blood builds against my skin. (Please note I am skipping now everything to happen in the death post). My fingers force themselves through brittle baskets searching for something to save her when... Her cannon cataclysmically crushes my chest sending the silver needle back out of her fingers from where it was freshly found. Another second too late. 

She returns sleeping to the soil's embrace as the wind's whisper warp my hair into a helm to shade my sickening sorrow. "Well Lockes, did you get what you desired?" My words murmur murderously low steps slowly slinking me closer to her killer. "Fuck you both." My chain swings swiftly through the storm determining whether my destiny is truly death or rightful revenge. At least they won't witness the tears this time, I've got none to shed from the anger of a stolen angel.

I can't see, and the wind is only making it worse. The unicorn horn flew, but I'm unsure of where it went. All I can hear is the bears roaring as it's carried away with the wind. I've always been afraid of the dark, not for the darkness itself, but of the monsters that hide within, and that is one of them. The monsters are there, and they're trying to hurt us.

Blood seeps from my stomach, and I'm trying to remain strong and calm, but I'm so afraid. I'm afraid of letting people down. Of not being able to pull my own weight.

The light is moving forward rapidly, and I'm trying to stay close. I'm trying to follow behind her. Tina's my friend, and I cannot let her down. I feel myself tense as I grip another unicorn horn tighter -

"Tina get ba..!"

The flashlight falls landing on the ground, Tina's screaming - my heart stops. It's inside my throat, and I can't breathe. My world is crumbling around me. Everything I've worked for is slowly slipping away. My stomach is in knots, and a river of tears flow down the side of my face.

"Tina!"

I'm shouting begging for it all to be fake, but she's dead she's gone.

And I'm trapped alone in the maze.

I have Dragon, and Noelle. I have to keep them close, to hold onto. I'm relying on them, and all at the same time, I'm still unsure of what to do or say.

I can't see, but I hear a thud, and in the midst of the light. A giant bear has fallen, it's hit the ground, and everything else is lost in the midst of a cannon. Noelle is clearly upset, and all I'm doing is trying to pull my weight.

I can't let them die.

It has to be me so my friends can stay alive.

Dragon felt a surge of guilt pulsing through his body as Tina jumped in front of him to deflect the biggest bear's attack. She took the strike and crumpled to the ground. She was dead, and it was all because she tried to protect him. The boy had a hard time believing what had just happened. His life had been saved at the cost of another.

"No!" screamed Dragon. "No, Tina! No!" The boy was in tears, unsure of what to do. He wanted to run to her body and be sure she was really dead, but he knew that if he stopped fighting, her sacrifice wouldn't mean anything because he'd be dead, too. Noelle took out the biggest bear. It was vengeance, in a way. Although, they couldn't stop with that. If they didn't kill all three of the bears, another one of their dear alliance members could be killed. Dragon wouldn't let that happen if he had any way to prevent it.

"You rotten beasts! She didn't deserve to die!" Dragon roared. He was full of rage, and it wasn't going to fade any time soon.

They watched as the tiny girl with the flashlight fell. Together they stood as one, eyes wide preparing themselves for a wonderful dinner, but soon it all changed. Papa bear fell, a chain embedded deep within his spine, and mama rushed to his aid leaving her cub vulnerable for only a moment, but the smart baby crawled behind her. Inside, the cub was sobbing, but it only came out as low growl. Papa died protecting his family, and Mama wouldn't let these humans get away. They killed her husband, and now she was simply a widow. Baby bear spread it's paw tapping on papa's shoulder trying to get him to wake up, but his efforts were futile. The damage was done.

Mama bear snarled a loud violent cry, and for the first time baby bear joined in with her. It was now on her shoulders to carry the weight of the family. To protect her little cub before it was too late.

She had lost one, and she refused to lose another.

Strike after strike our fearsome force makes its powerful point, you do not kill one of us. Although the world around me now dances darker than before with two lovely lights blown out, I remain standing. Despite the truth that my hands have yet again delivered death, I remain standing. Time after time again those who choose to cross me and my family can try all they have to halt my heart, but even then I shall remain standing. So long as there is a single soul which needs protecting then I vow I shall never know rest, I've failed far too many times. 

Growls gripe almost holding the heavy heart of true grief, yet these brutal beasts are nothing more than mechanical mirages. My teeth grit and grind against one another as anger develops deep within my veins. How dare they. How dare they attempt to make it seem as though it is us who is swiftly slaughtering innocence. How dare they attempt to make us drown in despair other than that of the lives we have lost. My fingers furl constraining the chain within my hands.

"Just cut it out!" My scream splits singing songs of winter winds as flames flicker inside my irises. "These bears are nothing more than your stupid play toys Lockes! Giving them false emotions and a false sense of family is ridiculous! Why don't you both try to realize your runners aren't five years old and able to fall for such falsities!" I swear I almost feel all the cameras center on me, I'm certainly in the spotlight of the Capitol now. Good, let them watch what we do to our enemies.

Wailing winds again violently burst through the shaking stumps to smack against my skin as I walk. Before me bears pretend to be a family, all I see is biology never meant to leave a Capitol lab. I feel nothing when I swing this time, I won't ever feel any regrets for what I must do again.

~Optional Challenge~

The moment that both Parents deplete to lifeless corpses upon the ground, the Baby Bear backs up to the safety of a tree behind it. Now what must be done? Should the Baby join it's parents within their demise? Should the Runners flee, leaving the Baby to unpredictable fates? Or is there a chance of taming it to fight on a Runner's side? Only the Runners can determine such.

If a Runner decides to attempt at taming it, they must roll a 1-10
1-3 is success in taming the Baby Bear
4-10 is failure

If a Runner is successful at taming the Baby Bear, it will follow them around (until it's killed) and fight whomever they want it to attack. If no one is successful after all Runners have posted, the Baby Bear will attack & randomly roll to see who it's attacking ~ any who did not attempt to tame it will not be in the randomized roll. Unlimited rounds of attempting to tame it, though the Baby Bear will continue to attack after every round that no one is successful.

A randomized roll has determined the order Runners may attempt at taming it ~ Dragon, Raiden, and then Noelle.

Dragon was absolutely devastated to see Tina fall in place of him. He wasn't sure what he could possibly do to make up for it. Would Noelle hate him because Tina sacrificed herself for him? He hoped not. He already hated himself enough for the two of them combined. There was way too much of a guilty feeling flowing through the young runner's veins.

As both big bears fell to Noelle's attacks, the baby bear retreated behind a tree. The small bear looked terrified, and it slightly reminded Dragon of himself. When he was first learning to fight, training as a career, he would back away when things got tough. Now, though, he didn't back down when he was up against something more difficult than usual. Perhaps he could show this baby bear what it meant to fight for the good guys instead of the grievers.

"Guys, I'm gonna try to tame it. Maybe it can help us," the boy said to his alliance.
