The selection yielded many runners of significant youth this time around. Twelve- and thirteen-year-olds are quite plentiful, never ceasing to appear when you turn your head. Hunting prey should be far from a challenging task for those who look for easy targets in the Maze. Many of us are weak and untrained, lacking the experience or survival skills necessary to live through all of this. Despite seven of us being allowed to survive this Maze, I doubt that that many will. Just because it's the allotted amount doesn't mean that it's a guaranteed amount.

It was finally time for me to consume some lunch. Even if I feared even taking a single moment of my time away from training, I needed to eat to keep up my energy. When I entered the dining hall, I retrieved a salad and some fruit, as well as a glass of juice. I was trying to stay on a natural diet- it would be difficult to remain a vegetarian in the Maze, but I'd make at least some sort of attempt. I looked around and noticed that there were very few seats remaining to sit in. This meant I'd have to sit with someone. Therefore, I decided to make it one of the others my age- the one I recognized as Pariah from Nine.

"Do you mind if I sit with you?" I asked him.
