Hail Winterselle
My fingers feel uncertain gripping the foreign figure of the spear. Earlier the stick of steel had been soaring through the sky at the readied release of those who call themselves career. Now it remains idle and awkwardly angled within my grasp. Like my siblings before me I am unprepared for the upcoming battle. Violence is foreign in our family and thievery is the only crime I've ever known. However, throwing punches is something I am more than capable of handling when picking fights. Alas, throw another object into the mix and I'm about as useful as the dummies currently getting slashed and slaughtered by the careers during their play time.
Giving up for the time being on my struggles with the spear, I turn and head across the center. The cafeteria is only slightly clustered with most Runners sitting silently by themselves. As Hail begins to build her plate for lunch her eyes spot a familiar face among the ever present sea of new acquaintances with the interests of killing me. Pariah, and he is sitting all alone. I bite my lip questioning whether sitting next to him is smart strategically, but I eventually give in to my better side. He's from home and right now that is the closest thing to family that I have. It's time I start showing him I feel that way.
Stealing a seat by his side I offer a small smile. "So, how are you doing? Everything here is a it crazy huh?" The questions are simple and short but they give him the chance to open up to her if he chooses. They are short but they are a start to a possible friendship.
